Public Expose of HCV Study in West Sumatra

Since February 2019, Tropenbos Indonesia has been supporting KKI WARSI in the identification of High Conservation Value (HCV) areas in West Sumatra Province. The concept of HCV that was formerly applied in forestry sector has now been widely adopted in other sectors. Today, conservation advocacy and various kinds of land use planning have also incorporated HCV concept to manage and increase conservation functions and values of the managed areas.

MoU on EEA Management of Orangutan Corridor in Sungai Putri – Gunung Tarak – Gunung Palung Landscape

The management of Essential Ecosystem Areas (KEE) Orangutan Corridor in Sungai Putri - Gunung Tarak - Gunung Palung Landscape has become a joint commitment outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in a meeting at the West Kalimantan Provincial Forest Service Office on Thursday, November 22, 2018. Nine institutions that signed the MoU were the Directorate of Essential Ecosystem Management (BPEE) MoEF, West Kalimantan Forest Agency, Bappeda Ketapang, PT Kayung Agro Lestari, PT Gemilang Makmur Subur, PT Laman Mining, Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), International Animal Rescue Indonesia (YIARI), and Tropenbos Indonesia (TI).

Participatory Action Research and Village Development Workshop in Ketapang

Tropenbos Indonesia (TI) in collaboration with The Center for People and Forests (RECOFTC) Indonesia organized a Participatory Action Research and Village Development Workshop in Ketapang held at Aston Hotel Ketapang on Monday, 18 October 2018. The event was attended by 49 participants from Bappeda, Balitbang, PMPD Agency, Distanakbun Ketapang District, Sub-district Heads of Matan Hilir Utara and Matan Hilir Selatan, Village Heads of Sungai Putri and Laman Satong, Gunung Palung National Park Office, private sector (PT KAL and PT BGA), and NGOs (PMP, Yiari, Asri, AidEnvironment and Yayasan Palung). The workshop aims to share the result of Participatory Action Research (PAR) implementation method carried out in Laman Satong and Sungai Putri villages.

Researcher of Tropenbos Indonesia (TI), Dr. Atiek Widayati, presented the mapping result of Social Forestry Potential Area in West Kalimantan Province conducted by TI at “the Coaching Clinic on Facilitation Activities of Proposals and Technical Verification of Social Forestry in West Kalimantan Province”. The coaching clinic was organized by West Kalimantan Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership (PSKL) Office, Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) at Orchardz Hotel Pontianak, 27-29 September 2018.
