As a hydrological unit between Pawan River and Kepulu River which covers the areas of the villages of Sungai Pelang, Sungai Besar, Sungai Bakau, and Pematang Gadung, as well as several other villages in Matan Hilir Selatan District, Ketapang Regency, the peat area of Pelang has not only strategic values for cultivation function, but also for protection function which is important for the sustainability of this area. With such important functions, governance and development of this area have been in concerns for various parties, which have poured various efforts to develop while also protecting this area.

Orangutan, but wildlife conservation in this area still faces various challenges. "Well, I don't consider it a problem but a challenge and the answer lies in the field," said Sadtata Noor Adirahmanta, Head of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), West Kalimantan, in the Tropenbos Indonesia webinar series "Managing the Remaining Forests” which this time covered the topic of “Protecting Wildlife of the Archipelago”. This webinar was held online on Saturday, July 3, 2021, attended by around 300 participants.

As part of the commemoration of "Desertification & Drought Day", June 17, 2021, which this year has the theme "Restoration. Land. Recovery. We build back better with healthy land”, Tropenbos Indonesia held a webinar entitled “Healthy Land and Watersheds” in collaboration with the Indonesian Soil & Water Conservation Society (MKTI). "With healthy soil, we rebuild our ecosystem," said Edi Purwanto, Director of Tropenbos Indonesia, at the opening of the webinar which was attended by around 490 participants on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

Assistance after obtaining a Social Forestry (SF) permit plays a major role in supporting the success of community businesses. "Currently, there have been so many efforts from civil institutions to assist the community to obtain SF permits, but the success of the community (conducting social forestry business) is apparently largely determined by the assistance carried out after obtaining the permit," said Edi Purwanto, Director of Tropenbos Indonesia in the webinar series #19 "Managing the Remaining Forests" held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 which raised the topic "Learning from Forest Entrepreneurs". After the discussions on topics related to the Job Creation Law (UUCK) No.11/2020 in the two previous webinars, the Tropenbos Indonesia webinar series “Managing the Remaining Forests” #18 again reviews the topic around the implications of UUCK on forest resource management. Present as resource persons were experts in the field of social forestry from government, academic, and practitioner. The event, which took place on Saturday, May 22, 2021, was attended by around 500 participants either via zoom or the youtube.
